Why does OCAD Inc. now offer a subscription model?

In doing so, we are following a general trend of many other software vendors in order to be able to respond much faster to customer requests and to follow their usage behavior, technological development and new standards.

• It is no longer up to date to release a new version of OCAD with many new features every three years. With regular updates, OCAD shall be updated with new functions, technological developments and new standards as soon as possible.

• Our customers always want to use the latest version of a software and only as long as they need it. Furthermore, easy transfer to other users was top of the wish list. All this is possible with the subscription model.

How do I know that I should update OCAD, when the next update will be released and what new features it contains?

If there is a new update available for OCAD 2018, it will be displayed when you start OCAD. The update usually takes less than half a minute. Your personal settings will not be changed. We will inform you about the content of the update via blog entries, on the website, in the "What is New" menu of the OCAD Wiki or in the Release Notes (https://www.ocad.com/OCAD12/OCAD_12_Update. txt). On our homepage we also list the next planned further developments, which you can test in advance in a beta version. New functions are expected in the editions “Mapping Solution”, “Orienteering” and in the field of course setting. You can read the Functionality Charts to see which updates will be introduced in which editions.

What does the subscription model mean to me?

By introducing the subscription model, you can purchase OCAD for one year. After that, you have to renew your subscription to continue to use OCAD and benefit from the further development and support services. You will be informed of the cancellation date about 2 months before the expiry of the subscription. With the free and co-installed OCAD Viewer, you can open and print your map files at any time, even after the subscription period has expired.

Why does OCAD no longer offer lifetime licenses?

In addition to the subscription model, continuing the lifetime licenses would be a considerable additional expense. All further developments and adaptations to technological developments must be carried out in parallel.

Does the subscription model make OCAD more expensive?

The subscription option "OCAD 2018 for Teams" is more expensive than the subscription option for "Single Users", but you get 2 licenses which can be transferred to another user of your organisation within 24 hours. The subscription option for "Single Users" is slightly more expensive for one year with much better update and support services, for 3 years the price is the same as the previous OCAD versions.

When can I cancel the annual subscription?

You can cancel your annual subscription at any time up to 30 days before the end of the subscription period. From this point on, we assume that you will be able to renew your subscription for another year. To make sure you don't miss the cancellation date, we will send you a reminder email about 2 months before the end of the term, including a payment request.

When will I receive the invoice for the subscription renewal?

If not already paid with the remainder email you will receive the invoice 30 days before the license expires. The invoice can be paid either by credit card or bank transfer within 21 days.

What happens if I don't pay the bill?

Then you cannot open or use OCAD after the runtime has expired. However, you can still open and print your OCAD files with the installed OCAD Viewer.

Can I view and/or print my created maps after the subscription expires?

Yes, after the subscription expired the OCAD files can be opened/viewed and printed with the installed OCAD Viewer.

Subscription Options

Are there different subscription options?

Yes, there are two subscription options. One option for "Single Users” and one for "Teams" (companies and associations). The subscription option for "Teams" starts with two licenses and can be extended with additional licenses.

What is the advantage of the subscription option for "Teams"?

Users of the subscription option "OCAD 2018 for Teams" can transfer their license once within 24 hours to another person. Licenses can be assigned to an organisation. The License Manager always provides an overview of which licenses an organisation currently owns (subscription Team license, subscription Single User license, license of previous OCAD versions).

On how many computers can I activate the subscription option "OCAD 2018 for Single Users".

The terms of use for the subscription option for "Single Users" are essentially the same as before; the user can install the software automatically on 1 device (desktop or notebook). In order to allow the use on several own devices at the same time (desktop, notebook, tablet) further activations for own devices can be granted by OCAD on request.

Can I update old (<= OCAD 12) OCAD Version to OCAD 2018?

Yes. As a user of a valid OCAD 12 license you will get 40% discount, as OCAD 11 license owner you still get 20% off. For earlier versions no discounts can be granted.

What happens to my old (<= OCAD 12) OCAD version?

It depends. If you have purchased an update to the new version, then you lose your right to use the old version after the end of the subscription period (see terms of delivery). On the other hand, you get a discount when you buy an update version. If you buy a new version, you can continue to use your old version.

Is OCAD 2018 compatible with previous versions (<= OCAD 12)?

With OCAD 2018 all OCAD files can be opened. However, with OCAD 2018 you cannot save your map in all previous versions, i. e. only up to version 10. The reasons for this are that the OCAD file format is extended from version to version. So, it is possible that information may be lost when saving a map in a previous version. However, you will be warned if data would get lost when saving a map in a previous file format.

Will previous versions continue to be maintained with service updates?

No. Previous version are no longer actively developed. Service updates will only be created if it is a system-critical error.

Can I upgrade Editions?

Yes, you can upgrade your edition i.e. choose an edition with a higher functionality and/or another subscription option (e.g. 1 year subscription Single User Orienteering edition-> 3 year subscription for Teams Mapping Solution edition). You pay the difference in price for a yearly subscription.

All prices are excluding VAT. Prices are indicative only and may change until the release. VAT will be added according to the EU VAT rules. For business customers with a valid VAT ID the VAT can be waived.

Discount

• The following discounts can be cumulated.
• If you buy a 3-year subscription (for Single User or Teams) you will receive a discount of 15% compared to the 1-year subscription.
• Updates of OCAD 11 or OCAD 12 licenses to OCAD 2018 will benefit from 20% or 40% discount until 31.10.2018. There are no update discounts for earlier versions of OCAD.
• Volume discounts for OCAD 2018 for Teams: The subscription option for "Teams" starts with 2 licenses and can be extended with additional licenses. The discount applies to the total amount of all licenses of one edition.

Warum bietet die OCAD AG neu ein Abo-Modell an?

Damit folgen wir einem allgemeinen Trend vieler anderer Softwareanbieter, um viel schneller auf Kundenwünsche eingehen zu können, sowie ihrem Nutzungsverhalten, der technologischen Entwicklung und neuen Standards zu folgen.

• Es ist nicht mehr zeitgemäss, wie bis anhin alle drei Jahre eine neue OCAD-Version mit vielen neuen Funktionen herauszugeben. Mit regelmässigen Updates soll OCAD laufend mit neuen Funktionen, technologischen Entwicklungen und neuen Standards aktualisiert werden.
• Die Nutzer wollen immer die aktuellste Version einer Software und diese nur für eine gewünschte Zeitdauer verwenden oder sie an einen anderen Nutzer übertragen.

Wie weiss ich, dass ich OCAD aktualisieren soll, wann das nächste Update kommt und welche neuen Funktionen es enthält?

Wenn ein neues Update zur Aktualisierung von OCAD 2018 bereitsteht, wird das beim Aufstarten von OCAD angezeigt. Die Aktualisierung dauert üblicherweise kaum eine halbe Minute. Die persönlichen Einstellungen werden dabei nicht verändert. Über den Inhalt des Updates informieren wir über einen Blogeinträge, auf der Website, im «What is New»-Menü des OCAD-Wiki oder in den Release Notes (https://www.ocad.com/OCAD2018/OCAD_2018_Update.txt). Auf unserer Homepage führen wir auch die nächsten geplanten Weiterentwicklungen auf, die vorab in einer Beta-Version getestet werden können. Neue Funktionen sind vor allem in den Editionen «Mapping Solution», «Orienteering» und im Bereich Bahnlegung zu erwarten. Der Functionality Charts kann entnommen werden, in welchen Editionen welche Updates geplant sind.

Was bedeutet das Abo-Modell für mich?

Durch die Einführung des Abo-Modells erwirb man die Nutzung von OCAD neu für ein Jahr. Danach musst das Abo verlängert werden, um nach wie vor von der Nutzung, Weiterentwicklung und Supportleistungen von OCAD profitieren zu können. Etwa 2 Monate vor dem Ablauf des Abos wird auf den Kündigungstermin aufmerksam gemacht. Mit dem kostenfreien und mitinstallierten OCAD-Viewer können OCAD-Dateien auch nach Ablauf der Abos jederzeit geöffnet und ausgedruckt werden.

Warum bietet OCAD keine Lifetime-Lizenzen mehr an?

Zusätzlich zum Abo-Modell die Lifetime-Lizenzen fortzuführen wäre ein erheblicher Mehraufwand. Sämtliche Weiterentwicklungen und Anpassungen an technologische Entwicklungen müssten parallel ausgeführt warden.

Verteuert sich OCAD durch das Abo-Modell?

Die Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Teams» ist teurer als die Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Einzelanwender», dafür beinhaltet es zwei Lizenzen, welche innerhalb von 24 Stunden einmal einem anderen Nutzer übertragen werden können. Die Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Einzelanwender» ist bei deutlich besseren Update- und Supportleistungen für ein Jahr etwas teurer, für 3 Jahre entspricht der Preis dem der bisherigen OCAD-Versionen.

Auf welchen Zeitpunkt kann ich das Jahres-Abo kündigen?

Das Jahres-Abo kann jederzeit bis spätestens 30 Tage vor Ende der Laufzeit gekündigt werden. Ohne aktiver Kündigung gehen wir davon aus, dass das Abo um ein weiteres Jahr verlängert wird. Damit der Kündigungstermin nicht verpasst werden kann, werden wir ca. 2 Monate vor Ende der Laufzeit eine Erinnerungs-E-Mail zusenden, inklusive einer Zahlungsanforderung.

Wann erhalte ich die Rechnung für die Abo-Verlängerung?

Sofern die Rechnung nicht schon nach Erhalt der Erinnerungs-E-Mail bezahlt wird, senden wir 30 Tage vor dem Ende der Laufzeit erneut die Rechnung. Die Rechnung kann entweder per Kreditkarte oder Banküberweisung innerhalb von 21 Tagen bezahlt werden.

Was passiert, wenn ich die Rechnung nicht bezahle?

OCAD kann nach dem Ende der Laufzeit nicht mehr gestartet respektive genutzt werden. OCAD-Dateien können weiterhin mit dem mitinstallierten OCAD-Viewer geöffnet und ausgedruckt werden.

Kann ich meine erstellten Karten nach dem Ablauf des Abonnements weiterhin ansehen und/oder ausdrucken?

Ja, wenn das Abonnement abgelaufen ist, kann man die Karte mit dem mitinstallierten OCAD Viewer ansehen und/oder ausdrucken.

Gibt es unterschiedliche Abo-Optionen?

Ja, es gibt zwei Abo-Optionen. Eine Option für «Einzelanwender» und eine für «Teams» (Unternehmen und Vereine). Die Abo-Option für «Teams» startet mit zwei Lizenzen und kann mit weiteren Lizenzen erweitert werden.

Was ist der Vorteil der Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Teams»?

Die Nutzer der Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Teams» können ihre Lizenz einmal innerhalb von 24 Stunden einer anderen Person übertragen. Lizenzen können einer Gruppe zugeordnet werden. Der Lizenz-Manager bietet stets den Überblick, welche Lizenzen eine Gruppe gerade besitzt (Abo-Teamlizenz, Abo-Einzelanwenderlizenz, Lizenz früherer OCAD Versionen).

Auf wie vielen Computern kann die Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Einzelanwender» aktiviert werden?

Die Nutzungsbedingungen für die Abo-Option «OCAD 2018 für Einzelanwender» entsprechen im Wesentlichen den bisherigen. Der Nutzer kann die Software auf einem Gerät automatisch aktivieren. Um die Nutzung auf mehreren eigenen Geräten gleichzeitig zu ermöglichen (Desktop, Notebook, Tablet) können auf Anfrage weitere Aktivierungen durch OCAD gewährt werden.

Kann man die alte Version (<= OCAD 12) auf OCAD 2018 updaten?

Ja. Als OCAD 12 Nutzer gibt es einen Einführungsrabatt von 40%, als OCAD 11 Nutzer 20%. Für frühere OCAD Versionen gibt es keine Update-Rabatte.

Was passiert mit der alten OCAD-Version?

Wenn ein Update von OCAD 11 oder 12 auf die neue OCAD 2018 Version gekauft wird, dann geht das Nutzungsrecht der alten Version nach Ende der Abo-Laufzeit verloren (vgl. Lieferbedingungen). Deshalb gibt es beim Kauf von OCAD 2018 einen Rabatt. Wird eine neue Lizenz (kein Update) erworben, dann kann die alte Version weiterhin benutzt werden.

Ist OCAD 2018 mit früheren Versionen (<= OCAD 12) kompatibel?

Mit OCAD 2018 können alle OCAD-Dateien geöffnet werden. OCAD 2018 kann Karten jedoch nicht in alle vorherigen Versionen abspeichern, d.h. nur bis OCAD 10. Der Gründe dazu sind, dass das OCAD-Fileformat von Version zu Version stetig erweitert wird. Beim Abspeichern einer Karte in eine vorherige Version gehen Informationen verloren. Eine Mitteilung weist darauf hin, falls Informationen verloren gehen.

Werden frühere Versionen weiterhin mit Service Updates verbessert?

Nein. Service-Updates werden nur noch dann erstellt, wenn systemkritische Fehler aufgedeckt werden.

Kann ich eine OCAD-Edition upgraden?

Ja, es kann eine Edition gewählt werden, die einen grösseren Funktionsumfang und/oder ein anderes Lizenzmodell aufweist (z.B. Upgrade von 1-Jahres Einzelanwenderlizenz Orienteering zu 3-Jahres Teamlizenz Mapping Solution). Es wird jeweils die Differenz des Preises für ein Jahres-Abo in Rechnung gestellt.

Alle nachfolgenden Preise verstehen sich exklusive MwST. Alle Preise sind nicht verbindlich und können ändern. Die MwST berechnet sich bei EU-Ländern nach dem jeweils gültigen Steuersatz. Für Firmenkunden mit gültiger UID wird keine MWST berrechnet.

Rabatte

• Die nachfolgenden Rabatte können kumuliert werden.
• Beim Kauf eines 3-Jahres-Abo (für Einzelanwender oder Teams) wird ein Rabatt von 15% gegenüber dem 1-Jahres-Abo gewährt.
