{"id":1430,"date":"2022-08-10T16:40:08","date_gmt":"2022-08-10T14:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocad.com\/blog\/?p=1430"},"modified":"2022-08-10T16:41:18","modified_gmt":"2022-08-10T14:41:18","slug":"check-control-sites-with-ocad-sketch-app-and-geoviewer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocad.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/check-control-sites-with-ocad-sketch-app-and-geoviewer\/","title":{"rendered":"Check Control Sites with OCAD Sketch App and GeoViewer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At most orienteering trainings and competitions it is customary to survey the control locations in the field before the event and occasionally update the map near the controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll show you in<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1QEhDtRYvGs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>this video<\/strong><\/a> how to make the best use of OCAD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avoid extra work: Use geoservices in advance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is lot of geodata available, that helps you to get a nice first impression of the terrain, even if it is unknown to you as a course setter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E.g. for spint courses in urban areas, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocad.com\/wiki\/ocad\/en\/index.php?title=Open_Geoviewer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GeoViewer<\/a> function in OCAD opens Google Street View (or another GeoViewer Service) at the indicated location. This makes it possible to estimate whether a control can be set or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ocad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GeoViewer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/ocad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GeoViewer.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GeoViewer.png 580w, https:\/\/ocad.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GeoViewer-300x155.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocad.com\/wiki\/ocad\/en\/index.php?title=WMS\" target=\"_blank\">WMS\/WMTS <\/a>or <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocad.com\/wiki\/ocad\/en\/index.php?title=Online_Map_Services\" target=\"_blank\">Online Map Services<\/a>, it is possible to load survey data or aerial photographs and check whether new buildings (urban) or clear-cuts (forest) are visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of all these geo-services is of course dependent on their up-to-dateness and a terrain inspection is nevertheless required.
